Rechargeable batteries are becoming so popular and the rechargeable batteries that are widely being used in digital cameras are the NiMH rechargeable batteries. Since digital cameras cannot function without batteries, the batteries play an important role.
Many digital camera batteries are available in the market, and these batteries are of two types, one being the proprietary batteries and the other being the AA size batteries. The good thing about the proprietary batteries is that they are rechargeable, and we need not search for the new one when our old battery is down, we can just plug-in our camera in to a charger and wait until it gets fully charged.
The rechargeable batteries for digital cameras are of two types, one being the NiMH rechargeable batteries and the other being LiON type rechargeable batteries. The NiMH rechargeable batteries are always recommended when we are out for a trip or tour. The NiMH rechargeable batteries use hydrogen-absorbing alloys for the negative electrode instead of cadmium. Hence NiMH batteries can have two to three times the capacity of equivalent size NiCd batteries.
The Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) rechargeable batteries are the most ideal one and are best suited for digital cameras. However, LiON batteries are becoming much popular these days as they are not affected or exaggerated by memory effect. Since all batteries including NiMH rechargeable batteries undergo self discharging when they are left unused for long time, we need to recharge these batteries before using them again.
