Printer cable is the cable that’s primary and most important function is to carry data between a computer and a printer. There varieties types of printer cables are available in the market. They are RS-232, EIA-422, Parallel, USB and FireWire. However among them Parallel printer cables have been slowly phased out, and currently it is difficult to find one parallel printer cable for the most part, being considered as an obsolete on most new computers. Lately, FireWire is considered as the most high speeds printer cable which offers a speed of up to 800Mb/s, sometimes which becomes excessive for printers.
In is in fact a cable that establishes a connection between printers to a computer. On a PC, this cable is typically refers as a cable with a 25-pin DB-25 male connector that plugs into the computer and a 36-pin Centronics male connector can be plug into the printer. This is known as Centronics cable, which uses the parallel port on the computer.
However, parallel cable superseded the USB cable, another type of printer cable. When a printer is attached through the USB, the printer cable is considered as a USB cable. When this is connected to the network, the printer cable is considered as an Ethernet cable with RJ-45 connectors.
Earlier printer cable has been verified with use of Centronics connector; in 1981 this printer cable is considered as a standard. But with the passing of days these printer cable give way to the USB and network as its substitute.
